Solution for Garbled Text in Clock-in Record Export Files

When opening a CSV file of clock-in records in Excel on a Windows computer, garbled text may appear. This is usually caused by a mismatch between the CSV encoding format and Excel’s default encoding format. By default, Excel prefers ANSI (such as Big5) or UTF-16 encoding, while many systems or programs export CSV files using UTF-8.

Method 1: Save the CSV File in a Compatible Encoding Format

  1. Open the CSV file using a text editor (such as Notepad++ or VS Code).
  2. Select Save As.
  3. Choose ANSI (recommended Big5 in a Traditional Chinese environment) or UTF-8 with BOM in the encoding options.
  4. Save the file and reopen it in Excel.

Method 2: Use Excel’s Text Import Wizard

  1. Open Excel and create a blank worksheet.
  2. Select Data > Get Data > From Text/CSV (or select Import Text File depending on the version).
  3. Browse and select the administrator’s CSV file.
  4. During the import process, choose the correct encoding format (such as UTF-8 or Big5).
  5. Click Finish to correctly import the data.
